Content Creation

Mom_JennyCraig: Day 21

This past week I lost another half pound (almost).  This was my smallest loss, but at least I can still say I am going down.  My counselor was pleased, as she said by now I am leveling off and can't expect the larger losses to continue.  This past weekend was a challenge as I attended my 10 year old granddaughter's golf tournament at Kahneeta, Oregon.  She tied for second and won a $50 gift certificate in the pro shop.  Yeh -- Summer!!

Rejuvenation Pulls Back Curtain: Wins Fans

Rejuvenation does it again with a simple, but engaging way to engage with fans. As the Facebook status reads, “Dawn, one of our fans, inquired as to the whereabouts of her new McCoy lights, so I took a stroll down to production and followed them through the process of being built. This ones for you Dawn!” There are then multiple pictures showing the people and the process that go into making this fixture.

Is Content King Midas?

Everyone loves to spout off this idea that “content is king,” as if simply having content—lots of it—gives you an edge and ensures that the people and their money will soon follow. As the newspaper industry and other old media institutions in the age of blogs and YouTube have discovered, that’s not necessarily true.

Marketing Profs: Good Design Supports SEO

Great, short little article from Marketing Profs on how good design supports SEO. Sure, there are little tricks and copywriting best practices you can implement to improve the search engine optimization of your pages, but like everything else in user experience, those activities should be part of a bigger plan. This is essential to developing a comprehensive Creative Strategy.

A Challenge to Us All

A former colleague of mine at Critical Mass bemoans the unrealized potential of augmented reality in creative marketing. Augmented Reality is basically using technology to add layers of information over what you view in the real world. Imagine glasses that allow you to access model info and pricing of a passing car or an iPhone app where you can find out where to buy that cute coat that the woman waiting at the bus is wearing by using a camera modification. The possibilities are endless and that’s where Margo’s disappointment lies.

Lessons from Mad Men: What Would Draper Do?

It seems as though this show was created for me: I am in advertising in marketing, I have a penchant for early-60s clothes and music, and I am a writer who is consistently blown away by the caliber of dialog in this show. I am quite simply mad for Mad Men.

Twitter's $48 Million Month: So What?

AdAge asks the question on everyone’s minds in the post-Oprah Twittersphere: Can Twitter Maintain Its Sizzle? But my question is, does it need to?

Longer-form video content on the web

Recent consumer research regarding online video consumption behavior combined with production trends expanding beyond the 30-second spot are ushering in a new era on the web for online video. Where once it was thought that the Internet was not the venue for such content, apparently many of us are now choosing to watch longer-form online brand videos and short films. In this 12-minute piece the Schweppes brand only appears twice. The content is an engaging story. It would be great to hear from Schweppes how they measure the impact of this investment on their business.

The CDC & Twitter: Good Content is the Cure for the Swine Flu

Yes, Oprah mentioned Twitter in a show and now a million of her fans flooded the network, many of whom got confused or realized they didn’t have time to micro-blog and left, and now we have even more noise in the system. The upside to this sort of mainstream acceptance is the potential to cultivate a real messaging platform in which smart companies and agencies can leverage followers to spread the word on their behalf. Case in point: The CDC Emergency Twitter Stream.

Report: People Tiring of Some Social Media Tactics

A recent AdAge article alerts marketers eye balling social media to the fact that the members of social networks may be getting sick of constantly being asked to install this app or forward that message to their friends. If we follow my party analogy, this shouldn’t surprise anyone
