Creative Review: Wrangler's Blue Bell Site
Don’t get me wrong…I like cool websites that leverage creative use of technology, but Flash for flash (small f) sake is just…flashy. It’s a lot of light with little heat. It’s all blow and no show. It’s clichéd.
Wrangler has an interesting site on their hands that’s promoting their Blue Bell line. Taking a cue from Burger King’s subservient chicken, visitors to the site can drag around this poor beard-o for minutes of entertainment. It’s cool interactivity, but what business objective does it meet? I guess you could make a claim that interaction with the model helps build knowledge of the product (or, that’s what I’d argue if called to the carpet by the client), but we don’t really interact much with the product at all. It’s there on the model but he could be wearing any brand name in the world and it would still be the same concept. In fact, he could be wearing a chicken suit.
Instead, why not a creative concept that leverages the product story and leaves an impression on the user beyond the fact that they had fun slapping a model around? [I’d copy and paste some of that story here but I can’t because the site is in Flash, but I digress]. This is supposed to be a “collection...of instant collectibles” that, awkward copywriting aside, represent superior design and quality. So let’s see these pieces in different situations. Let’s guide our hero through a dinner party, or have him dance at a club, or let him play football on the beach…let’s have him doing things we do but in these amazing clothes. That would be interesting.

Blue Bell
One could project that the buyer/decision maker for many men's clothes are women. When she goes out to pick out new jeans for her man, she will remember the hour she spent, happily making a cute guy do gymnastics for her.
I humbly submit that this is brand development, associating a good-looking, well built man who is subservient, obedient and willing to please... talk about aspirational!
